Panel Discussion: Is This a IX? Doing Triage Well
A central concern related to Title IX cases is determining what is required to be handled through the Title IX process and what is handled by other departments such as guidance, student discipline, special education, 504/ADA, or an informal discussion. Join us for this interactive panel discussion as we address the best process for intake, adopting a trauma informed approach, and the importance of equity in the overall process.

Join Dr. Brian Van Brunt as he presents an engaging, visual presentation on the dos and don’ts when it comes to safely preparing your work environment, setting up your office for success, and working with law enforcement. Drawing from situational awareness and evidence-based safety standards, he will share ways to be prepared in case of an escalation.

Group Teaching: Informal Resolution Process
What is the informal resolution process and when is it appropriate to use in a case? Join our experts as we talk through how and when to offer this approach as an option and when it should be avoided. We will discuss the importance of setting clear expectations around information sharing and documentation, who should be involved, what happens if the process is not successful, and what rights are in place for both the complainant and responding parties.

Listen as Dr. Brian Van Brunt shares some thoughts about the psychology of interviewing from his experience in threat assessment, differential diagnosis, and psychotherapy. Learn from Brian as he shares his approach to information gathering in the Title IX process, including showing empathy, de-escalating anger, deception detecting, and re-directing parties during the interview process.

Panel Discussion: Interpersonal Violence: Risk, Safety and Response
Join our panel as we touch on the difficult issue of interpersonal violence. We will review the expectations related to a Title IX response as well as address the criminal and law enforcement elements of these challenging cases. Additional insight will be shared on how to help a friend during these times, the challenges of no-contact orders given social media and a smaller community setting, and how to manage the ups and downs of dating violence.

What better way to start the morning than an invigorating discussion about the challenges of teaching consent from a legal and aspirational perspective? While the legal definitions of consent are clear, the challenge is related to how we share these expectations with our students and the role (and challenges) of consent education in the primary school setting. Group Teaching: Violence Risk Assessment and Emergency Removal Evaluations: Title IX and BIT Working Together
Learn what is involved in an Individualized Safety/Risk Analysis and how these differ from other assessments. We will discuss the differences between this assessment and mental health or triage assessments and the importance of mitigating bias and ensuring an equitable process for all parties involved.

Join Dr. Brian Van Brunt as he guides you through the basics of how to conduct an individualized safety/risk analysis. This session will review the importance of understanding the modes of violence, assessing risk and protective factors, determining transient versus substantive threats, and using clear and consistent documentation to reduce legal risk. (Additional ticket required.)
